OUR SERVICES
At
Raphael’s Furniture Restoration,
we specialize in the restoration
of antique furniture and furnishings. With over 50 years of experience
with
restoration, reproduction and refinishing.
The following
list is a description of our
services.
Stripping & Refinishing – All our stripping is
done by hand, no dip
stripping. We carefully strip antique furniture to protect the patina.
We also
can remove burns, rings and water marks.
Restoring –
When the existing finish on your table tops and furniture is in good
condition with
out being cracked or alligatored. It can be saved and restored by
adding more
of the same finish.
Finishes –
We work with clear lacquer that is heat, water and alcohol resistant.
We hand
rub and polish it to any sheen. We also work with colored lacquer,
custom mixed
to any color or sheen. We restore the antique furniture with shellac.
Oil &
Wax Finish.
French Polishing – French polishing is
the process to apply a finish. Lacquer or shellac
is mixed to a very thin solution with a drip of oil. The mixture is
soaked up
into a bun shaped pad made from a cotton ball covered by a cotton
cloth. The
pad is streaked across the top of the table from one side to the other
many
times to build up the finish. This process fills the pours and adds a
luster.
The finish can be rubbed to a satin luster or up to a higher gloss.
Repairing –
We repair all kinds of furniture from dining room chairs, cracked table
tops,
broken pedestals, veneer, inlay, gold leaf frames, wooden &
gilt objects,
religious statues & fine furniture. We also replace broken
glass in the
doors of secretary desks and china cabinets.
